Things Tenants Say #12 |
You probably won't hear, "My dog's name is Conan the Destroyer."They may actually say,"I know you said No Pets, but MY DOG is a SHOW DOG."Dear Readers,I love dogs. Some of my best friends have been dogs, but I have learned to be wary of tenant's dogs. Why do people who own their own houses usually have better behaved pets than tenants who rent? Isn't that interesting? And why do so many tenants who can barely afford the rent decide to take on the responsibility of caring for a dog? In many cases I see, it just isn't fair to the dog. Although our lease says "no pets", I have been known to make an exception here and there when I feel the circumstances warrant it. Before accepting pets in a nice rental and writing up a pet agreement, I always recommend viewing the tenants present home so you can make a more informed decision. You'll be able to see how they live and how their pet treats the home! "No dog ever improved a rental property" - Nick Koon, Hard Nose Landlording |
